If your credit card payment was declined when trying to sign up or pay an invoice, here are the common causes and how to resolve them.
Why payments get declined
- Card expired or card number entered incorrectly
- Insufficient funds or credit limit reached
- Bank flagged the transaction as suspicious (common for first-time online purchases)
- Billing address does not match what the bank has on file
- International transaction blocked by your bank
01. How to Fix It
- Double-check card details - Number, expiration date, CVV, and billing address must all match exactly
- Call your bank - Ask if they blocked the transaction. Many banks decline unfamiliar online charges and will approve it once you confirm
- Try a different card - If one card is declined, try another or use PayPal
- Update your payment method in the client area under Billing > Payment Methods. See Updating a Credit Card.
If your bank keeps declining, try PayPal instead. PayPal is accepted for all Ultra Web Hosting services and avoids bank-level transaction blocks.
