What is POP3 Email?
POP3 (Post Office Protocol version 3) is a standard email protocol used to retrieve email from a mail server to your local email client such as Outlook, Thunderbird, or Apple Mail. When you use POP3, emails are downloaded from the server to your device.
Why Do You Need It?
With a web hosting account at Ultra Web Hosting, you can create POP3 email addresses using your own domain name (for example, you@yourdomain.com). This gives your business or personal brand a professional appearance compared to using free email services.
POP3 vs IMAP – Which Should You Use?
- POP3 – Downloads emails to your device and typically removes them from the server. Best if you primarily check email from one device and want to save server disk space.
- IMAP – Keeps emails on the server and syncs across all your devices. Best if you check email from multiple devices (phone, laptop, tablet). We recommend IMAP for most users.
