Invalid Syntax Error When Loading cPanel
If you receive an "Invalid Syntax Error" or a blank/garbled page when trying to access your hosting control panel, this is almost always caused by using http:// instead of https:// in the URL.
The Fix
Make sure your control panel URL begins with https:// (note the s). The correct format is:
https://yourdomain.com:2083
Why This Happens
Our servers require a secure SSL connection to access cPanel. When you use http:// (without the s), the server attempts to load the page over an unencrypted connection, which is blocked for your security. The browser may display this as a syntax error, a connection reset, or a blank page depending on which browser you are using.
Other Common Causes
- Wrong port number – cPanel uses port 2083. If you are trying port 2082 (the old HTTP port), you may see this error. Use
https://yourdomain.com:2083 - Browser cache – Clear your browser cache and cookies, then try again
- Firewall block – If you have attempted too many incorrect logins, your IP may be temporarily blocked by our firewall. Visit my.ultrawebhosting.com and use the Unblock IP button
- ISP blocking port 2083 – Some ISPs or corporate networks block non-standard ports. Try accessing cPanel through your client area at my.ultrawebhosting.com instead
If you continue to experience this error after trying the above steps, please open a support ticket and include the exact URL you are using and a screenshot of the error.
