Facebook's sharing and like buttons have been redesigned multiple times since this article was written. The embed code and API referenced here are no longer valid. Facebook now provides updated share buttons through their developer documentation.

Current Resources

If you use WordPress, most social sharing plugins (Jetpack, AddToAny, Social Warfare) handle Facebook buttons automatically with current API code.
