Domain Transfer Process
If you requested a domain transfer on your order form and have provided the EPP authorization code (also called a transfer key or auth code), we will initiate the transfer on your behalf. You will receive a confirmation email from the domain registry that you must approve to complete the transfer.
Before the Transfer Can Begin
There are a few things you need to do at your current registrar before a transfer can be processed:
- Unlock the domain - Most registrars lock domains to prevent unauthorized transfers. Log into your current registrar and disable the domain lock.
- Get the EPP/authorization code - Request this from your current registrar. It is a unique code that authorizes the transfer.
- Disable WHOIS privacy - Some registrars require WHOIS privacy to be turned off for the transfer approval email to reach you.
- Make sure the domain is not within 60 days of registration or a previous transfer - ICANN rules prevent transfers within 60 days of either event.
How Long Does It Take?
Domain transfers typically take 5 to 7 days to complete after the transfer is initiated and approved. During this time your website and email will continue to function normally as long as the nameservers remain pointed to our servers.
If you need help with the transfer process, open a support ticket and include your domain name and EPP code. We will handle the rest.
