Inode issues

There are many issues that can arise from reaching your inode limit. The inode limit is the total number of files you can have on an account. While some packages allow unlimited disk space they are still limited to 200,000 files total. The website files and emails both added equal out to the inode number.
Below are some common errors that you may receive from reaching your inode limit. If you receive one of these errors, try deleting some files and emails from your account that are no longer needed. Your goal is to get below the 200,000 limit with room to spare.

When I try to access web mail in the cpanel and get this message

 A fatal error has occurred

Cannot write to cache directory /home/(yourusername)/tmp/horde

Details have been logged for the administrator.

If emails sent to your account bounce back to the sender with the following message...

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

Internal error occurred.
retry timeout exceeded.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I can't backup my home directory - cpanel backup reports "too many inodes".
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Redirect not working.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
File Manager will not allow me to create a new file.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm trying to log into my mailbox and it's saying the inbox is empty. The control panel is showing it's not.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not able to create new email accounts

I receive "email does not exist" error while creating an email account in my hosting control panel.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mailbox full. None of my email accounts seem to be able to receive mail. I can send ok but not recieve.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Again, if you receive one of these errors, you may need to delete some files and emails from your account that are no longer needed. Your goal is to get below the 200,000 limit with room to spare.
On some servers the total file number can be viewed in the cPanel statistics section.
