If you need to cancel your hosting account with Ultra Web Hosting, you can submit a cancellation request directly from your client area. Here is how the process works and what to do before you cancel.
01. Before You Cancel
Take care of these items before submitting your cancellation request:
Back up your files and databases
Once your account is cancelled, your website files, databases, and email are permanently deleted from our servers. Download a full backup first. See How to Back Up Your Website for step-by-step instructions.
Download your email
If you use email on your hosting account, make sure all messages are downloaded to your local email client. If you are using IMAP, your emails are stored on the server and will be deleted when the account is cancelled. Switch to POP3 temporarily to download everything, or export your mailbox via webmail.
Update your domain's nameservers
If your domain is registered elsewhere and you are pointing it to our nameservers, update the nameservers at your registrar to point to your new hosting provider before cancelling. Otherwise, your domain will stop resolving once the account is removed.
Check for domains registered through us
If you registered your domain through Ultra Web Hosting, cancelling your hosting does not cancel your domain registration. Your domain will remain active and can be transferred to another registrar. See domain transfers for information on moving domains between registrars.
02. How to Submit a Cancellation Request
- Log into your client area at my.ultrawebhosting.com
- Go to Services > My Services
- Click on the hosting product you want to cancel
- Click "Request Cancellation" in the sidebar menu
- Select the cancellation type:
- Immediate - Account is queued for removal right away
- End of Billing Period - Account stays active until your current billing cycle ends, then is removed
- Enter a reason (optional but appreciated, it helps us improve)
- Click "Request Cancellation"
If you are cancelling because of a technical issue, consider opening a support ticket first. We may be able to resolve the problem. If you are cancelling because of pricing, contact our sales team as we may be able to offer a better rate.
Simply not paying an invoice does not cancel your account. Unpaid accounts are eventually suspended and then terminated, but you may incur late fees in the meantime. Always submit a formal cancellation request through the steps above to avoid any billing issues.
03. What Happens After You Cancel
- You receive a confirmation email acknowledging your cancellation request
- The account is suspended on the effective date (immediately or at end of billing period)
- Data is deleted after a short grace period. All website files, databases, email accounts, and configurations are permanently removed
- Future invoices are stopped for the cancelled product
- Your client area login remains active so you can manage domains, view past invoices, or purchase new services in the future
04. What About My Domain Name?
Hosting and domain registration are separate services:
- Domain registered through us - Your domain stays active and renews separately from hosting. You can keep it registered here, transfer it to another registrar, or let it expire.
- Domain registered elsewhere - Update the nameservers at your registrar to point to your new hosting provider (or park the domain) before cancelling.
- Domain included with hosting - Some plans include a free domain. Check your plan details. If the domain was free with hosting, it will still be registered in your name and can be transferred, but renewal responsibility falls on you.
