My site was hacked

This typically occurs when you are running a script/app on your website which is out-dated and has been compromised by a hacker, or you have spyware on your system which has sniffed out your FTP credentials and inserted a line of code into your files. We run more security layers than most hosting providers but hackers may get through if they are diligent. It is your responsibility as a webmaster to keep your scripts up to date and your connecting computers free of spyware. You will want to change your account password, update any scripts/apps you may run, remove any foreign files from your account, remove foreign code from your files, scan for spyware/malware with a program such as Malwarebytes free download. If you are listed in Google you will need to contact them after these remedies have been performed.

If you are using WordPress we recommend installing the WordFence plugin.

When looking for foreign coding they are typically inserted lines in your code which call to a javascript file on a remote website. This can be an encoded reference or a reference to a .js file.

In the case of foreign directory filled with files you will want to remove it along with any links to it.

We recommend restoring from backup and securing your website. We have automatic remote backups for accounts smaller than 5GBs which we can also pull from to restore your account.
